Establishing Adulthood

In 2000, the psychologist Jeffrey Arnett coined the term "Emerging Adulthood" to describe the major aspects of the formative life stage between the ages of 18 and 29. Twenty years later, Clare Metha et.al followed up on Arnett's foundational work in a paper that introduced that concept of "Established Adulthood" for ages 30 to 40.

That is the life phase I'm in right now, and though I'm trying my best to establish my adulthood, I feel like there's much more to learn about that ordeal. Inspired by Arnett's and Metha's workd, this blog is my public notebook for documenting what I learn about how to be(come) an adult.

I've been writing about that topic for a few years on Substack and my German blog.

By translating my main pieces of writing into English and publishing it here, I hope to reach a wider audience to get more feedback on my writing and thinking.
